Spring Bird (Bill Eater), 2012
Recycled wood and copper
Spring Bird is a mail box made of recycled wood material featuring a copper ‘stomach’. The main concept is based on the idea that we hardly receive any personal mail from the post nowadays since everybody are using emails to communicate instead of writing letters. The contemporary mailbox is now reduced to a container that exclusively for junk mails and bills, lots of bills! My idea is to transform daily boring mail retrieval routine into an act of fun and game. The postman will drop the mail (mostly bills) into the beak of the large abstract bird sculpture as if he/she is feeding the bird. The owner of the mailbox opens the stomach of the Spring Bird much later, hoping by this time the bills will be predigested a bit and conceptually reduced, at least in the mind.
