Ho Sin Tung

As part of Moderation(s), the year-long collaboration in 2013 between Witte de With and Spring, Ho Sin Tung has been invited by Latitudes, curators-in-residence at Spring in January, to develop a day-long tour, thus retelling the city and artistic concerns through personal itineraries and waypoints. (Find his proposal in the Spring Workshop Archive Dropbox.)

Hô Sín Tüng’s tour of Hong Kong revisits some of the diverse filming locations from her video “Folie à deux” (2011), in which friends and colleagues read their favorite book passages aloud with their back to the camera. Through a reading-and-listening relationship, Ho Sin Tung associates intimate and unique memories with the locations chosen by each reader.

Ho Sin Tung was born in Hong Kong in 1986, and graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Chinese University in Hong Kong in 2008. Now she is a full-time artist in Hong Kong because she doesn’t have a part-time job.

Ho’s recent work predominantly uses pencil, graphite and watercolour in combination with found and ready-made images – such as stickers, maps, charts, rubber-stamps and timelines. These are reinterpreted to narrate stories of places, relationships and periods of time often within a considered, objective historical setting.

Ho had her solo exhibition “Hong Kong Inter-vivos Film Festival” in Hanart TZ Gallery, Hong Kong (2012), “You Are Running A Business Called None Of My Business” in Abu Dhabi Art Fair (2011), “Folie à duex” in Experimenta, Hong Kong (2011) and “Don’t Shoot the Messenger” in Hanart TZ Gallery, Hong Kong (2010). She also participated in group shows like “Hong Kong Eye” in Saatchi Gallery, London (2012), “The 9th Shanghai Biennale” in the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art (2012), “Octopus” in Hanina Contemporary, Tel Aviv, Israel (2011), “Urban Utopia : if and only if” in Goethe Institute, Hong Kong (2011), “Drawing Out Conversation : Taipei” in Nanhai Gallery, Taipei (2010).

A part of Moderation(s)

Moderation(s) is a year-long collaboration that will unfold in 2013 between Spring Workshop, Hong Kong, and Witte de With, Rotterdam. Conceived as an anthology of active proposals, Moderation(s) brings together an international group of artists, curators and writers in a year-long program of contemporary discourse and production between the two organisations. Within this framework, the artist Heman Chong will steer the project which will involve more than 50 artists and engender a conference, three exhibitions, three residencies and a book of short stories.
