Iftikhar Dadi
Spring is delighted to host Iftikhar Dadi during his residency period as artist and scholar-in-residence at Asia Art Archive from July to September 2014. (Find his essay in the Spring Workshop Archive Dropbox.)
An artist and art historian, Dadi is Associate Professor in Cornell’s Department of Art and Department of History of Art. He has authored numerous scholarly works, including Modernism and the Art of Muslim South Asia. Curatorial activities include Lines of Control at Duke University’s Nasher Museum of Art and Cornell’s Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, and Unpacking Europe at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam. As an artist, Dadi works collaboratively with Elizabeth Dadi. Their work investigates the salience of popular media in the construction of memory, borders, and identity in contemporary globalization, and the potential of creative resilience in urban informalities. Their work is frequently realized in large-scale installations and has been exhibited and published internationally, including in the 24th Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil, Third Asia-Pacific Triennial, Brisbane, Australia, and Border Cultures: Part One (homes, land) at Art Gallery of Windsor, Canada.
Dadi’s residency will include a public talk at Asia Art Archive on 14 July. For more information, click here.
